There is no buffer time.<\/p>\n Piker is someone who is used to operating under pressure, but he’s fortunate that it’s rare that he’s under so much pressure. To his audience, mostly young white men, the 34-year-old far-left commentator is a mouthpiece for a failed system. To his critics within the Democratic Party, he is responsible for being protected by “joke insurance” when making controversial comments about Israel and U.S. foreign policy. Last month, a Wall Street Journal editorial branded him “anti-American, anti-women, anti-Western and anti-Semitic” and called on the Democratic Party to completely sever ties with him. As Politico puts it, the left is addicted to Pikers. Piker has learned to manage with the help of everyday life.<\/p>\n “Saneity of the mind in a crazy world must be supported by strict controls,” Piker told WIRED. “Think about it. Death. Destruction. An incapacitated state unable to meet the needs of the working class. To maintain any semblance of hope, you must preserve your sanity. I thought this was the way to do it.”<\/p>\n We spoke to Piker, who previously spoke with WIRED global editorial director Katie Drummond, about his obsessive routine, streaming setup, and last-minute obsession with Zyns.<\/p>\n What is the first thing you reach for when you wake up?<\/strong><\/p>\n Unfortunately it’s my phone. Next is finasteride.<\/p>\n Are you a coffee person?<\/strong><\/p>\n yes. When you’re done tweeting, reading, or listening to NPR. morning paper<\/em>Get out of bed and hit two shots of double espresso in a row. And I take a lot of medicine. I take creatine in the morning. I throw up when I eat seafood, so I take fish oil tablets. I take a lot of good stuff like multivitamins, ashwagandha, and zinc.<\/p>\n Stream at least 8 hours per day. When do you have time to eat lunch?<\/strong><\/p>\n I eat the same lunch every day during my delivery. Usually around 3pm. 1 pound of chicken. Pure white chicken breast and rice. It will be Asian or Middle Eastern chicken. I also drink a lot of cold beer while taking 3 milligrams of Zyns. Sometimes I substitute 6 milligrams of Zyns. Coffee and cinnamon are my two flavors.<\/p>\n We often react to breaking news in real time to thousands of viewers. How can you avoid instant takes that can be severely degraded?<\/strong><\/p>\n Sometimes this happens, but I try to control myself. I have my own ideology and message discipline about what I’ve been talking about for years, and it’s not difficult for me to react immediately because the problem still persists. I’ve spoken thousands of times about the need for gun control. So after another horrific mass shooting, I know there are certain systemic factors at work that I can speak to right away.<\/p>\n There’s a lot of young crowd watching you. How do you apply these political issues to them?<\/strong><\/p>\n Donald Trump has made my job infinitely easier. My job is to educate people about imperialism and sometimes consider the victim’s perspective. This is not a frequently discussed part of our war machine. We talk about how war affects us. Our sons and daughters are sent overseas, they die, and we spend all our money on wars for oil capitalists or something.
